Atakunmosa High School Alumni Commissions New NYSC Lodge in Osun
The 1975 set of Atakunmosa High School, Osu, Atakumosa West LGA in Osun State has commissioned a newly constructed NYSC lodge for Corps Members posted to the school. The initiative is part of the alumni group’s commitment to giving back, commemorating their 50th anniversary and the 70th birthday celebration of their president, Chief Lateef A. Bakare. The unveiling ceremony took place at the Atakunmosa High School Hall in the Local Government Area on Friday.
Representing the Osun State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Agbor Ndoma Obim, at the event, Mrs. Fatima Taiwo applauded the efforts of the alumni, describing the project as a laudable one that will positively impact the Corps Members’ service experience.
“The Corps Members were excited when they heard earlier today at the Orientation Camp about the commissioning of a new lodge being donated to the NYSC. Many expressed interest in attending the Ceremony but were unable to do so due to the Swearing-in activities,” she said.
Taiwo further appreciated the school management and the alumni for their continuous support. She added, “Corps Members will now be posted more frequently to Atakunmosa High School. Should there be a need for additional Corps Members, the school is encouraged to make a formal request to the NYSC.”
In his remarks, Chief Lateef Bakare, President of the Atakunmosa High School Old Students’ Association, praised the 1975 set for their consistency in executing meaningful projects. He explained that the decision to build the Corps lodge was part of his personal contribution in celebration of his 70th birthday.
“I am donating this reconstructed building comprising two flats for the exclusive use of Corps Members serving in this school. What stood here before was a dilapidated structure with overgrown trees and fallen walls. I saw an opportunity to transform it into something impactful,” Chief Bakare stated.
The school principal, in his address, expressed deep appreciation to both the NYSC and the alumni for their generosity. He noted that the new lodge would offer Corps Members a comfortable living space, allowing them to focus on their duties without stress.
He also appealed to the Osun State Government to assist in constructing a perimeter fence around the school compound to safeguard the new facility and any future developments.
The commissioning ceremony was graced by notable dignitaries, including His Royal Highness, Oba Jethro Adegoke Adejola, the Olosu of Osu; Engr. Oluyemi Oladimeji, who served as Chairman of the occasion; Chief Oluwabunmi Adeleye, the Baamofin of Osu Kingdom; a representative from the Osun State Ministry of Education; and several other esteemed guests.
